Plan my Vernon weekend · What's on this weekend
Find a place to stay in Vernon
Two days in Vernon fit a lakeside park with a trail to a viewpoint, a science centre beside a Japanese garden, a honey farm, a bowling brewery and a cold plunge. Day 1 covers the town and a honey farm, and Day 2 heads out to Kalamalka Lake. It suits a couple or a small group who want plans that work in any weather. See what's on this weekend.
Day 1: Polson Park, a honey farm and bowling
Start with breakfast at KALA Bakery + Coffee on 32nd Street. The case runs to croissants, breakfast bagels made with a 48-hour sourdough, gluten-free cookies and espresso drinks.
Then go to the Okanagan Science Centre on Highway 6. It has exhibits, a planetarium and astronomy programs, a stop that works whatever the weather.
The centre sits inside Polson Park, so walk out the door and into its Japanese Garden. The park also has walking trails and a playground.
Lunch is at Delissmo Social Kitchen and Bar on 30th Avenue. The menu runs from soups and noodle and wok dishes to fish and chips and laksa.
In the afternoon, drive to Planet Bee Honey Farm and Honeymoon Meadery on Bella Vista Road. The farm runs all year. You can watch bees at work in the on-site hives, taste honey and mead, and shop for honey products. Kids have a Hive Lab.
Dinner is at BNA Brewing Vernon on Kalamalka Lake Road, a production brewery with more than ten of its own beers on tap and a kitchen. Upstairs there are four 10-pin lanes, three duckpin lanes and six arcade games, and lanes book ahead on its site.
Day 2: Kalamalka Lake and a cedar sauna
Pick up breakfast at Two Donkeys Bakery on Kalamalka Lake Road: European-style bread, breakfast sandwiches, sweets and coffee.
Spend the late morning at Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park. The Cosens Bay Trail is 2.5 km and easy, and the Juniper Trail climbs to the viewpoint on Rattlesnake Point. In winter the trails suit snowshoes, and when there is enough snow the Cosens Bay trails take ungroomed cross-country skis.
Lunch is at Gerni's Farmhouse at Sparkling Hill, which cooks Austrian food: bratwurst, schnitzel, pork knuckle and strudel.
By mid-afternoon you will want to warm up. Cedar & Soak on 30th Street is a sauna and cold plunge studio with a cedar sauna, shared and private contrast therapy and red light therapy.
For the evening, go to The Kal on 30th Avenue, a kitchen and bar with its own arcade.
Good to know
- Gerni's Farmhouse takes walk-ins only, and guests must be 16 or older.
- Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park has more than 14 km of trails in total, so there is plenty to fill a snowshoe morning.
- The Okanagan Science Centre and Polson Park share a Highway 6 address, so they make one stop on the road.
